ACADEMICS - World Languages - Greek

So what is it like to take Greek at Andover?

In our first-year course (also in an accelerated format for strong language students), we master the alphabet in a week and all of the basic grammar within the year. In one year we actually read world-class authors like Plato or the New Testament, a quality of reading usually reached only in the third or fourth year of other foreign languages.

In the second year we experience more of the Greek genius, reading Homer's Odyssey and Sophocles' Oedipus Tyrannos or Euripides' Medea. We also make use of the astonishing Perseus Project, an interactive CD-ROM computer system enabling students to explore Greek literature and civilization at levels formerly available only to college professors.

Some of our Greek students also take accelerated first and second year Latin as a natural sequel to the second or third year levels of Greek, just as some of our Latin students take acelerated first and second year Greek as seniors.
